The first effort involved having a resident run group ballroom dance lessons. This had issues and failed because there were more singles (mostly women) attending than couples and there was some discord within the group. This wasn’t a viable condition.

Since 2009 there have been two efforts to have a ballroom dance type activity within Heritage Isle.

About Us

The second effort involved bringing in an outside professional (at a cost per person) to teach group lessons. The same problem occurred but he was able to convince outside hosts to come in and also asked the couples to allow their male partner to rotate with the single women. This also failed because of the inequitable arrangement (not everyone was dancing all the time) and the fact that some people (male and female) are more comfortable dancing with their own partner as they struggle to learn. Couples starting dropping out, or not sharing, and the outside hosts were hit and miss. The result was the same – no more group lessons.

In 2016 the founders decided to resurrect the ballroom dance effort, but with a substantially different approach. A good portion of our thought process was driven by the expressed desire by residents of Heritage Isle to have a Ballroom Dance activity that would allow them to dance to music that was solely ballroom style. So we formed the Ballroom Dance Club to attain a standing within Heritage Isle and Heritage Isle Club in order to secure time in the ballroom and run open dances on certain days.

Although the recurring dances were the primary need and goal, we also saw that some introductory dance lessons, in a group environment, would foster growth of the membership. But we knew what caused the failure of this effort in the past and decided on some fundamental rules to ensure our survival. These are listed in the  Structures  and Rules   page.

Your founders, Chuck and Anna Headley invite all dancers, or those who would like to dance, to join us in some fundamental Ballroom Style dancing, education, and enjoyment. Your primary point of contact is Charles Headley via the  Contact  page.
